Coaching

Reward Yourself; Volunteer to Coach Youth Sports!
Coaches are needed for all youth sports programs. Take part in one of the most beneficial and rewarding parts of youth sports. Be a part of a young athlete’s LIFE. Coaching is not only a great experience for the child, but also for the coach.

Please indicate on the registration form which sports you are interested in coaching or call the Park District. Coaches are trained by the NYSCA and become certified. Also, coaches who complete specific requirements may receive 50% reimbursement of the registration fee for their children at the completion of the season. For more information, contact Ryan McCalley at (847) 465-3333.

Leave Something Behind
No one ever goes through life alone. When you look back at all of the success you have had, look at the people who have made your success possible: parents, family, friends, teachers, and coaches. You will never be able to fully thank those who have helped you. What you can do is build on what they have given you; take your knowledge, experience, memories, and enthusiasm and pass that on to others. That is what coaching is – teaching others the game, sportsmanship, class, and challenges of winning and losing.

One of the greatest thrills in life is working with young people. Through coaching, you will be able to watch them grow emotionally, physically, and mentally. No amount of money or any other reward is as great as knowing your love and your time has helped someone else grow.

The greatest thing about coaching is that it benefits everybody involved. Young athletes learn and grow under your guidance, and you get to be a part of the lives of others. They will never forget you and what you have done. Hopefully when they become older they too will take on the challenge of coaching or teaching, and will leave something behind.

National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) Certification Training
NYSCA is a training program offering assistance to the coach as well as making the youth sports program the best it can possibly be.

Prospective coaches can obtain information on NYSCA by calling the Wheeling Park District at (847) 465-3333. All clinics are presented at no charge to our coaches, and are held at the CRC. The training sessions last about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Depending on the sport, additional training may be required.

Note to parents: As a part of the coaches training process, all coaches are required to sign a “Coaches Code of Ethics” which assures their dedication and responsibility to youth sports, as well as submit to a State of Illinois background check.

Coaches clinics for spring sports are held at the CRC for the following leagues:
Soccer: March 16, 2005, 7-9 PM
T-ball: May 4, 2005, 7-9 PM
