Step up to the plate, and register for PHWYBS!

Dear Parents,
Prospect Heights/Wheeling Youth Baseball/Softball (PHWYBS) is again offering
our communities a quality baseball and softball program. Last year,
PHWYBS served almost 900 children. This year, our commitment to offer youth
baseball and softball to all boys and girls is stronger than ever. From
those just starting to enjoy the sport to those interested in showing
off their skills in summer tournaments against other regional teams, PHWYBS
has a place for everyone. The program stresses instruction and strives
to balance the line between fun and competition. Because PHWYBS is an
all-volunteer organization, the success of the program depends on parent
volunteers. When registering, please indicate where you are able to help,
or contact us to learn more. We look forward to seeing you and your children
on the fields this season.
Your 2008 PHWYBS Board of Directors.

T-BALL: *Boys, Girls 5-6 yrs
Designed to be a positive introduction to the game, children learn some basic fundamentals. No score or standings are kept at this level and fun is the absolute priority. Coaches will schedule a practice each week. Eight games are scheduled for the season.
Prospect Hts: Sat. mornings, 5/5 - 6/30, McDonald Field
Wheeling: Fri. evenings, beginning 5/4, Holmes School
BUDDY-BASEBALL: *Boys, Girls 6-18 yrs
Buddy Baseball allows children with physical and mental disabilities to participate in the “national pastime” with the help of their “buddies.” Able-bodied volunteers do everything from standing with them at the plate to helping them field and throw. Games last two innings and everyone bats each inning. Games are scheduled with similar teams from nearby communities such as Mt. Prospect and Buffalo Grove. SOFTBALL - GIRLS:
*Pintos 7-8 yrs *Minors 9-10 yrs
*Majors 11-12 yrs
*Seniors 13-14 yrs
This instructional and recreational league is dedicated to teaching
the basics of fast-pitch softball, teamwork, and good
sportsmanship. As girls move up through the divisions,
the level of competition increases accordingly. The
philosophy is that it’s more important to develop skills
than to win games. Age groups overlap to give girls the
opportunity to participate at their skill level. (Seven-year-
olds in the minors may be restricted to certain fielding
positions for safety reasons. Approximately two scheduled
games (one on the weekend and one on a week night) and
one practice are held each week. Practices start in early
April at the discretion of the manager with games running
from the end of April to early July. Seniors run longer into
mid- July.
BASEBALL - BOYS: *Pintos 7-8 yrs
*Minors 9-10 yrs
*Majors 11-12 yrs
*Seniors 13-14 yrs
From Pintos, who are just learning to pitch and field and
whose teams are based on friends and neighborhoods, through
the Seniors level where future high-school players hone their
skills, kids learn and play the game of baseball. Along the way, they
are taught self-respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.
A focus on player development and fair participation rules apply at all
levels. Approximately two games and one practice are scheduled each week.
Seniors often have three games each week. Practices start in early April
at the discretion of the manager; games run from late April to early July. Seniors run longer into mid-July.
*Child’s age on Sept. 1, 2008, determines the division in which
he/she should register.
PHANTOMS Tournament Teams (boys and girls)
This level is designed for those players willing and able to represent PHWYBS against other area teams in post-season tournament games. Multiple teams are formed from different age groups. Players are able to compare their skills with those of players in nearby towns and participate at a higher level of competition after the regular season ends.
Tryouts are held in early December; those making the team will pay an additional
fee to play in spring and during July. Additional practices will be
held during the regular season to prepare for the higher level of competition.
