Husky Park            1200 Lee Street    5 Acres

Husky Park is located on 5 acres at the east end of Lee Street and is directly behind Jack London Middle School. Prior to its redevelopment in 2001, it served as one of the Wheeling Park District’s oldest original parks. The park was originally used by the village as a retention basin for the surrounding subdivision.

The original Husky Park site had a wood play structure and a separate swing set that was incorporated within two hills. Wood walls surrounded three-quarters of the play structure and there were two lighted tennis courts.

In 2001, the park district received a grant to upgrade and renovate the area. New play equipment and a basketball area were added and a wetland nature center with a rock waterfall structure was created. The park was rededicated to the public last May and in January received the 2002 Conservation and Native Landscaping Award at the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association conference.
