Financial Aid

Financial assistance for recreation programs may be available to Wheeling Park District residents whose households meet specific criteria. Details about the program are listed below.

To apply for financial assistance, pick up a Request for Financial Assistance Application Form at the Community Recreation Center Guest Service Desk or download here. Complete the form and return it with the necessary documentation to the Guest Service Desk, along with a completed Program Registration Form. Provide a photocopy (not original) of the participant’s (under age 18) birth certificate with the Request for Financial Assistance Application Form.

  • Applicants must reside within the boundaries of the Wheeling Park District.
  • Documented proof of one or more of the following must be supplied:
    1. The household receives food stamps, general assistance, disability assistance, or other prequalifi ed governmental aid; or
    2. One of the household’s principal providers is actively serving in the military; or
    3. The household meets the poverty-level standards defined by Health and Human Services (produce prior-year tax returns with social security numbers eliminated for all household members providing financial support); or
    4. The household falls within the State of Illinois eligibility guidelines for low-income families. If grant funds from governmental agencies are available, applicants may be asked to first exhaust these means of financial assistance. Park District staff will assist applicants with obtaining these grants. The Executive Director may consider extenuating circumstances and award financial assistance to those individuals who do not consistently meet the established criteria.

An eligible participant will be limited to financial assistance for:

  • No more than three (3) weeks of Summer Camp annually
  • No more than two (2) seasonal recreation programs per year

Contractual programs not conducted by Park District staff, trips, cooperative programs, and punch-card programs are ineligible for financial assistance.

An eligible participant will be limited to financial assistance for:

  • Seasonal Recreation Programs -- 25% per participant
  • Camps -- 50% per participant
  • Preschool -- 50% per participant
