Park District Phase 4 Updates
Wednesday, July 8, 2020
All of Illinois will move into Phase 4 - Revitalization of the Restore Illinois Plan on June 26. This will allow the Park District to offer additional park and recreation programs and activities with capacity and operation restrictions. Below are updates on program offerings, facilities, and rentals.
Thank you, again, for your patience and understanding. These continue to be unprecedented times and we look forward to providing you with memorable experiences in parks and recreation that enrich our community.
The Wheeling Park District has developed a new and modified summer camp program. This new adventure camp will consist of smaller group sizes separated by location with the intent to allow for little to no crossover between camp groups. Increased sanitation, face coverings when necessary, and social distancing restrictions will be practiced in accordance with IDPH, DCEO, and CDC guidelines.
Summer camp is being offered in seven, one-week, sessions beginning on June 29. Registration is available online at wheelingparkdistrict.com.
Outdoor Sports Courts (Pickleball & Basketball)
Outdoor sports courts will open the week of June 28 for full play. All players are advised to practice good personal hygiene and will be required to follow proper social distancing protocols. Rules will be posted at all court locations.
Health & Fitness Center
The Health & Fitness Center will re-open on Monday, July 6 at 6:00 am. Access to the fitness center floor for cardio equipment and free weights, along with group exercise, and personal training will all be available. Current members will receive detailed information in the coming days.

M-Th: 6:00 am - 8:00 pm
F: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm

Community Recreation Center
At this time, the Community Recreation Center (CRC) will remain closed to the public. Only guests registered for summer camp or members at the Health & Fitness Center will be permitted in the building. The CRC will open for all guests later this summer.
Starting Friday, July 10, Tsunami Splash is open to the public! Advanced registration is required as each time slot is limited to 40 guests. Online registration required prior to admission. Click here for more information.
Family Aquatic Center
The Family Aquatic Center remains closed for the 2020 season.
The indoor pool remains closed. However, it will reopen later this year in conjunction with CRC reopening.
Heritage Park Sports Complex
The Heritage Park Sports Complex is open for youth and adult sports. This includes competitive gameplay for leagues and rentals.
Shelter & Field Rentals
Shelters and field rentals for groups of 50 & fewer will be permitted starting June 27. To inquire about the availability of a shelter or field, please contact us via email at email@example.com
Parks, Open Space and Playgrounds
All parks, walking trails, and open space remain open.
Wheeling Park District playgrounds are now open. Please use caution when using playground equipment and adhere to the following guidelines:
- Playground capacity is 50 patrons.
- DO NOT USE playground if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
- Wear a face covering and maintain 6 feet of distance between you and others.
- Playgrounds are not cleaned regularly. Please follow CDC and IDPH hygiene recommendations.
All special events for 2020 have been canceled. There may be opportunities for us to reschedule these events in the future, but given the anticipated limits on crowds for the remainder of the year, these events are not possible.
On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and staff of the Wheeling Park District, thank you for your patience and understanding. Additional program opportunities for the community are being planned within the parameters of the Restore Illinois Plan and details will be forthcoming. Please check our website frequently for the most up-to-date information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will continue to post updates on the District’s website to keep guests informed of any changes as quickly as possible.
