AVALON SIENNA PLAYGROUND RIBBON CUTTING
Wheeling Park District hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 14, at the new Avalon Sienna playground. The community was invited to join the celebration of this unique and highly-desired play area.
The new playground design, for ages five through 12, features bright, colorful play pieces, synthetic safety surfaces and whimsical shade structures. The area, designated for ages two to five, has a variety of unique equipment including balance steppers, music makers, numbers climber, inclined tunnel, and curved slide. A toddler swing and friendship swing are located adjacent to, at a safe distance from, the active play area. The section, for five- to 12-year-olds, includes additional music makers (kettle and goblet drums), climbing apparatus (belt bridge, star seeker, belt hammock, vertical ladder, overhead ladder with swiggle-knot bridge and spiral, pod, flex and mobius climbers), grab bar, swings, wobble pods, roller and alpine slides and spinners (saddle and curva). The safety surface is constructed of completely accessible “artificial turf”.
“We are excited to open this new playground for this neighborhood,” said Sue Stein, President of the Wheeling Park District Board of Commissioners. “This playground was made possible due the great work and partnership between the Wheeling Park District, the Village of Wheeling, and Avalon Sienna residents.”
