YOU OUGHT TO CELEBRATE AUTUMN AT THE WHEELING PARK DISTRICT

Oktoberfest, Pizza & Movie Party, BOOnanza and Day of the Dead 5K all fall in October!

It’s that time of year for falling leaves, a chilly breeze and lots of fun at the Wheeling Park District.

Oktoberfest is coming to Heritage Park on Saturday, October 2, 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This annual event is all about food, beer, music and merriment! Enjoy German and domestic beers with German-inspired food favorites like brats and pretzel bites served up by the iconic Old Munich Tavern in Wheeling. Live entertainment at the outdoor Performance Pavilion will be provided by Dan Mateja and IPA (International Polka Association) Tribute Band and 7th Heaven. Admission is FREE; food and beer are available for purchase.

Kids Pizza & Movie Party is back by popular demand on Friday, October 15, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Community Recreation Center. If you have children ages 5-9 years, this is a great opportunity for them to be safely occupied while you enjoy some relaxing time. Drop them off dressed in their favorite pajamas for a movie (“Hocus Pocus”) and pizza night. All those attending must pre-register by October 8. The in-district fee is $10 per child; out-of-district is $15 per child.

Children, ages 10 and younger, are in for a bewitching time at Boonanza on Friday, October 22,
4:00-7:00 pm. This spook-tacular event takes place outdoors at Heritage Park; it is FREE and includes spooky storytelling, carnival games, balloonist and inflatables. Decorate a pumpkin to take home and create a craft, too.

Sunday, October 24, is the Day of the Dead Family 5K Run/Walk. Bring the whole family for a fun run around picturesque Heritage Park and the streets of Wheeling; entertainment along the route adds to the festive atmosphere. The race starts at 8:00 am and is followed by a Dia De Los Muertos community celebration featuring live music and food. All pre-registered runners receive a commemorative t-shirt. Fee: $15/adults; $10/kids 12 years and under; Day-of-Race Fee: $25/adults; $20/kids 12 years and under.
