Youth Soccer Referee

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- A general knowledge of the rules and understanding of the game of Soccer.
- 15 years of age or older.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have good oral and written communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to solve problems and produce work on a timely basis.
- Demonstrated initiative, dependability, good judgment, tact, analytical skills, leadership, and the ability to work in a positive manner with the general public, Park District staff and Board of Commissioners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Officiate games for children in grades K – 4th in an unbiased manner and make sure game is played within the rules.
- Explain and enforce rules, assess penalties, signal the start and end of games, stop play for reviews as needed and inspect sports equipment prior to the start of games.
- Working in a fast-paced environment, Referees need to have an eye for detail and possess strong verbal communication, decision-making and leadership skills. They should be able to easily resolve conflicts and utilize above-average customer service skills.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Supports and exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
- Work as scheduled. Typically fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled game time.
- Setup fields, corner flags, and goals or assist Recreation Services Manager with any setup, field maintenance, etc. needed before, during, or after the game.
- Approach the position as a representative of the Wheeling Park District, displaying respect for the facility, participants, parents, and co-workers.
- Maintain a professional and mature attitude before, during, and after the contest.
- Attend all training sessions assigned by the Recreation Services Manager, read rules, watch videos, and accept suggestions from qualified personnel.
- Clock in to Paycom before every game and clock out at the end for use in payroll process. If Paycom is not available, an email with date, time and number of games officiated must be sent to Recreation Services Manager, in addition to requesting a time change request when Paycom is available.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
RATE OF PAY:
- $15.00 – $20.00 per hour
HOURS:
- Season begins September 9th, 2023 and runs to October 14th, 2023
- Games are played on Saturday mornings as scheduled by the Recreation Services Manager.
