Chevy Chase Country Club Exterior Recladding and Roof Replacement

The Wheeling Park District is excited to begin the exterior renovation of Chevy Chase Country Club. The renovation will maintain the historical and architectural significance of this cherished community asset. Throughout the course of the improvement project, please visit this page to see pictures and updates of the progress.  We look forward to sharing each milestone reached in the development of this important community resource.

Some of the improvements include:

    • Removal of deteriorated caddy shack.
    • Replacing deteriorated exterior cladding and roofing to address water infiltration and improve thermal performance.
    • Utilize modern building materials for a uniform appearance that maintains the original Tudor style character of the building.

Updates

The mason has started working on the new face brick installation at the Gable entrance.  Workers have started the installation of the new cement board siding along the west elevation of the Grand Ballroom.  Exterior painting has been completed at the existing wood detailing along the east elevation.  Over the next couple of weeks, workers will be completing the installation of all of the new cement board siding, installation of the EIFS at the west turrets, installation of the new aluminum storefront and doors, and tuckpointing along the east elevation face brick.

Workers have completed the demolition of the existing stucco between the Gable entrance and the Devonsire entrance.  Workers have completed the installation of the new sheathing and foam board insulation at the lower half of the Gable entrance and completed the installation of the new cement board siding and trim at the upper half.  The mason has completed the new face brick installation at the northeast corner of the building and will continue tuckpointing the existing masonry at the Grand Ballroom entrance and bar later this month.  Workers have completed the installation of the new cement board siding and trim at the north elevation.  Roofers have completed the replacement of the flat roof above the east Grand Ballroom entrance and west Grand Ballroom event space.  Exterior painting has been completed at the Grand Ballroom patio pergola and painting is ongoing at the existing wood detailing along the east elevation.

Workers have completed the demolition of the existing stucco at the Gable and continue to install new sheathing and foam board insulation.  Face brick will be installed at the lower half and cement board siding and trim at the upper half.  The mason has completed the new face brick installation at the northeast corner of the building and started tuckpointing the existing masonry at the Grand Ballroom entrance.  Roofers have completed the asphalt shingle replacement and are finishing up the flat roof area above the east Grand Ballroom entrance and west Grand Ballroom event space.

Today’s clouds make it a little easier to see the differences between the existing facade and the newly renovated sections along the east elevation.  Workers continue to install new sheathing, foam board insulation, and cement board siding and trim on the north side of the Grand Ballroom.  The roofers will finish all of the asphalt shingle replacement work by the end of this week.  Next week the roofers will focus on replacing the flat roof area above the Grand Ballroom.  Later this week, the mason will be out to start the new face brick installation at the northeast corner of the building, as well as tuckpointing of the existing masonry around the Grand Ballroom entrance.

Workers are continuing to install the new sheathing and foam board insulation on the north side of the Grand Ballroom.  New underlayment, venting, and shingles have been installed on the south side, as well at the roof areas above and around the Devonshire and east side corridor for the kitchen.  Next week workers will continue the roofing work along the east side corridor for the kitchen and at the flat roof areas above the Grand Ballroom.

Workers have completed demolition of the existing stucco on the north side of the Grand Ballroom and started the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation.  Roofing demolition has begun at the north side of the gable roof above the second floor offices and Grand Ballroom bar.  New underlayment, venting, and shingles have been installed on the south side, as well at the roof areas above and around the Devonshire entrance and Gable.  This week workers will continue the roofing work and the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation along the east side corridor for the kitchen.

The favorable weather and ability to work around rentals have allowed the workers to work at several new areas of the building.  Roofing demolition has begun on the north side of the Gable roof, and new underlayment, venting, and shingles have been installed on the south side.  The same scope of work is ongoing at the gable roof above the Devonshire.  Workers have completed the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation at the west side of the Grand Ballroom and turrets.  The new overhead access door opening has been framed out at the northwest end and will provide staff access to the storage areas behind the Grand Ballroom stage from the exterior.  Workers have completed installing new cement board panels, shake-style panels, and trim at the east side of the Grand Ballroom bar.  Workers have completed the demolition of the existing stucco on the east side of the Devonshire entrance and corridor to the kitchen.  This week, workers will continue the roofing work and the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation at the east side of the Devonshire entrance and corridor to the kitchen.

Workers have completed installing new cement board panels, shake style panels, and trim at the upper wall sections of the Kitchen, Abbey, and Grand Ballroom.  Workers have completed demolition of the existing stucco on the north and west sides of the Grand Ballroom, including the west turrets.  Roofing demolition has begun at the gable roof above the Devonshire and new shingles are being installed at the gable roof above the Abbey.  This week workers will continue the roofing work and the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation at the east side of the Grand Ballroom bar, as well as the west side of the Grand Ballroom.

Workers are in the process of installing new cement board panels, shake style panels, and trim at the upper wall sections of the Kitchen, Abbey, and Grand Ballroom.  Workers have completed demolition of the existing stucco on the north and west sides of the Grand Ballroom, including the west turrets.  Roofing demolition has begun at the gable roof above the Abbey.  This week workers will continue roofing demolition and the installation of new sheathing and foam board insulation at the north and west sides of the Grand Ballroom.
Workers are in the process of installing new cement board panels, shake style panels, and trim at the upper wall sections on the west side of the Gable, Kitchen, and Grand Ballroom.  Workers have completed demolition of the existing stucco on the west side of the Grand Ballroom and have started working on demolition of the stucco at the turrets.  This week workers will also be installing new sheathing and foam board insulation on the west side of the Grand Ballroom, as well as infilling openings within the concrete foundation wall.

Workers will be focused this week on installing new cement board panels and trim on the upper wall sections on the west side of the Gable, Kitchen, and Grand Ballroom.

Mother nature has continued to create challenges for the contractors.  Workers have completed installing shake style cement board at the south side of the Gable and are in the process of installing shake style cement board at the west side of the Gable and upper dormers.  When the weather improves, workers will continue installing new cement board panels and trim on the upper wall sections on the west side of the Grand Ballroom.

The snow and cold has created some challenges over the past week, but workers have completed installing new cement board panels and trim on the west side of the pro shop and upper dormers.  When the weather improves, workers will continue installing new cement board panels and trim on the upper wall sections on the west side of the Grand Ballroom.

Workers have completed the demolition of a portion of the siding on the south side of the Gable Bar and Grill.  They have installed new continuous foam board insulation, which will act as an air and moisture barrier, while also improving the thermal performance of the building.  A mockup of the new exterior cement board siding and trim will be constructed for review and demolition work will continue along the south side of the facility.

The contractor has mobilized their equipment and dumpster to the south end of the building. Materials have been delivered and are being stored in and around the cart barn at the north end of the property. Workers have begun demolition of the siding on the south side of the Gable and this work will continue throughout the week.

Caddy Shack on the south side of the facility was torn down, opening the space for future golf outdoor operations.
